Step Inside: Our Factory In Portland, Oregon

Originally built in 1910 as the Pacific Hardware and Steel building, our brick factory has quite the history. The San Francisco-based company needed an outpost in Northwest Portland for its growing hardware and tool business, so the heavy timber douglas fir and brick structure was designed and built by notable Portland architect John Virginius Bennes. Since its grand opening more than 100 years ago, the building has housed many things. From hardware to wool to paint supply storage for W.P. Fuller & Co, the building has changed ownership a number of times. The most recent occupant was Coffee Bean International until Schoolhouse purchased and renovated the space in 2010.

Our move to this historic building allowed us to bring all facets of the business under one roof. We design, build, test, and market our products here. Our inventory and shipping departments are also located within our factory walls, and our flagship store has found a home on the first floor of the building. In our latest video, we take a behind-the-scenes look at the people and products who make this space buzz everyday.
Our doors are always open to visitors - we're located at 2181 NW Nicolai Street in Portland, Oregon. Grab a cup of coffee, study in our design library, or browse the goods in our store.
