If you’ve been following along with our Sunday Slowdown emails (aka our weekly dose of inspiration for stylish-yet-relaxed living), you already know that we’re always keeping an eye on the details that make a house feel like home. Now that we’re all adjusting to darker evenings and slower mornings, we thought it was the perfect moment to round up a few of the trends we can’t stop thinking about. Consider this your cozy fall reset with just the right amount of play.
Here’s what we’re loving right now:

1. Playful Eclecticism
Rules? Never heard of them. This trend is all about tossing the design handbook out the window and mixing what you love whether that means Moroccan rugs, Scandinavian silhouettes, or vintage flea market finds into one big, vibrant vibe.
Just ask Annie Downing Interiors, who took whimsy to the next level in a kid’s room that’s equal parts sleepover dream and design-forward fantasy. Picture bunk-beds stacked like a puzzle (stairway included) wrapped in wallpaper and patterned curtains that set the tone for the whole space. It’s unapologetically fun, and proof that bold ideas always have a place at home.

2. Texture Stacking
One material? Great. Five layered together? Even better. Texture stacking is the instant way to add warmth and personality, even if your color palette stays simple.
Case in point: designer Nicole Lanteri’s bedroom, where a cotton grid coverlet, dot shams, velvet pillows, and a checkered duvet all hang out together. Add in a potted fern, vintage sconce, and abstract art, and you’ve got a space that feels equal parts lived-in and intentional.

3. Organic Modernism
Think modernism, but make it soft. This look pairs Saarinen-worthy lines with tactile finishes like warm wood, hand-thrown ceramics, and just the right amount of curve.
We spotted the vibe alive and well in a serene dining setup at this corrugated steel hut in Oregon featuring a solid oak table on concrete floors, anchored by a jute rug and glowing Luna pendant. Bonus points for the handmade ceramic vase, which reminds us that modern doesn’t have to mean minimal, it can also mean soulful.

4. Pattern Drenching
Wallpaper on the walls? Check. A quilt in the same palette? Double check. This is pattern play turned all the way up, and we’re here for it.
Studio Day Design nailed it in a sunny bedroom where pink floral wallpaper and a Stillwater quilt echo each other in the best way possible. Instead of fighting for attention, the patterns harmonize, and the result is a space that feels both bold and beautifully pulled together.

5. Muted Maximalism
Contrary to popular belief, maximalism doesn’t always have to shout. This softer take leans on tonal layers and abundance that whispers instead of yells.
Lotus Blue Design’s “urban oasis” kitchen is a case study: blue cabinets, a patterned rug, and tiled walls that all hum in harmony rather than compete. It’s lush but relaxed, abundant yet balanced. Basically, proof that you can have it all without it feeling like too much.
As we ease into this season of shorter days and longer nights, these are the ideas inspiring us to look at home through a fresh lens.
