  • Product Detail
  • dimensions: 2’-11” x 6’-1" (Varies)
  • product material: Wool and Mixed Fiber
  • product origin: Vintage Talsint, Eastern Morocco
  • product care:
    • Use a good rug pad cut to the correct size.
    • Shake the rug out often.
    • Rugs may be, and should be vacuumed. Make sure to turn off the brush beater bar (sometimes called the agitator) so that it does not pull out the pile.
    • Spot clean by blotting.
    • Shampoo if necessary using a soap approapriate for animal hair.
    • If you live in an arid climate, you may wash your rug with mild shampoo and lay it in the sun to dry. However, bright sun may cause colors to fade, and thick rugs may take a long time to dry.
    • In general, periodic professional cleaning is a good idea, but with some good care the rugs should be able to go several years between cleanings.

Lush and expressive, our exclusive assortment of vintage rugs have been sourced directly from the foothills of the Atlas mountain range. Each rug is one-of-a-kind and knotted by hand. Katen Bush of Kat + Maouche describes this unique piece:

A classic example of the smaller Talsint pieces, with the influence of Algerian designs. The symmetric motif of hashed lines once revealed a central medallion in negative space. But patterns of use now add to the design, leaving the center worn to the palest shadow and the color mainly on the ends. Turquoise, grey, and henna orange remain. Pink does too, re-knotted in places with brighter red. Even yellow pops up. But overall, it’s a faded color story and a reminder of what time – lending its own beauty – can add to utilitarian art.

Artist Statement

Husband and wife team Katen Bush and Latif Bezzir source authentic and unique vintage Berber rugs directly from the mountains and souks of Morocco. They source responsibly — in-person — working with locals to find outstanding pieces. A Berber-American family and company, they have spent years living in North Africa and are committed to the communities and cultures they work with. They are equally committed to furthering the understanding and appreciation of this particularly female, rural art. And modern art it is — utilitarian in purpose but wildly expressive in execution. Abstract. Vivid. Organic. Honest. Personal. Sophisticated. Whimsical. Slow art knotted by hand. These rugs are specific. They tell something of a weaver, a place, and collectively, of a people’s unique experience. But, as much as these rugs carry the symbols and lush language of a culture, they also resonate far beyond it. Kat+Maouche collect and share these rugs because they love them and use them.
