I really think people in the South have a special type of love for their flowers. Certain types of flowers, for me at least, are rooted in strong tradition of family and gatherings. I loved working on each piece in this collection! This floral work is an acrylic painting on a birch wood panel that is 2 inches deep. The sides of the painting are white and it is ready to hang. My paintings feature familiar Brooklyn sights cropped, collaged and simplified in order to capture a concentrated experience that refers to the interpersonal and supernatural. Wrought iron gates and architecture are the background to every glance of Brooklyn’s surroundings. By pairing the open invitation of domestic architecture and firm boundaries of decorative gates, the paintings deliver a sense of promise and denial. A deep space is implied but the depth is fragile. Color, sensuous surface, and familiar foliage entice; but, still a longing remains.
