We’re making it official. Our new Registry program is here and we’re excited to introduce you to a special member of Team Schoolhouse. Meet Dayna Salomon, our Registry Specialist and all-around customer care extraordinaire. Not only is she an expert on our heirloom-worthy collection of home décor, Dayna just so happens to be newlywed herself. In fact, both her and her husband Andy work here at Schoolhouse together (which we all find quite adorable). As our go-to for everything registry, we chatted with Dayna about her favorite wedding memory, top registry picks, and advice for spending a picture-perfect day in Portland with your other half.
Tell us about your current role at Schoolhouse:
"As the Gift Registry Specialist, I assist couples with creating and managing their Schoolhouse registry. I love the chance to be a small part of a special, memorable occasions in customers’ lives."
What was your favorite element of your own wedding and what was your favorite gift you received?
"The best part of any wedding to me is the chance to share a meal together... who doesn’t love a big dinner party with all your favorite people? It was my absolute favorite thing to curate the design for all things tabletop for this part of our big day. Oh, and so many amazing gifts to choose from – a special one was Andy’s dad gifting us our honeymoon trip to Greece…I mean. WOW. It is a memory that will undoubtedly last a lifetime for us."
What is the one piece of advice you would give to couples who are newly engaged and wondering what to register for?
"Enjoy every minute. Most couples, including us, tend to get caught up in the whirlwind of decisions that need to be made for planning the big day. Registry is your special, unique opportunity to shift focus to after the wedding - the everyday with each other. I would encourage couples to register for products that will make your everyday not only functional but beautiful, too."
Why register with Schoolhouse – what makes our pieces so special?
"Schoolhouse products are icons – modern heirlooms built to last for generations to come. Each piece tells a story of inspired design come to life by an artisan we love or our factory."
What are your current top registry picks?
Chemex + Matte Black Pour Over Kettle: "Coffee every morning is a must."
FINEX Cast Iron 12" Skillet + Lid: "For the chef or the amateur."
American Modern Dinnerware: "Essential everyday classics."
Envoy Swing Sconce: "The perfect bedside light."
Split + Palm Leaf Print: "To bring the outdoors in."
Your husband also works for Schoolhouse in our PDX showroom, what’s a perfectly-Portland day off for the two of you?
"Andy and I both love coffee and food, so the highlight of our days off is usually in the city for brunch or dinner together. My pick is Proud Mary, always. Andy’s pick would be Kiosko coffee + Boxer Ramen. Also, we just bought our first home! So, our afternoons right now are often spent in our new space tackling our next project. I’ll take a break for a class at Crossfit Blue House, while Andy will be busy writing and making new music. Then we usually grab a beer with friends at our favorite neighborhood spot - Lombard House."
