The centuries-old craft of macramé has seen a stylish renaissance in the past decade thanks in part to artisans such a Emily Katz, a Portland-based multi-hyphen who works as an artist, interior designer and stylist among others. Recently she’s spent time traveling the world teaching macramé workshops and classes with her trademark modern bohemian design approach. Back home again, she’s about to embark on another great adventure: The launch of her new book Modern Macramé: 33 Stylish Projects for Your Handmade Home.
A longtime friend of Schoolhouse, we're excited to host Emily's official book launch party at our Portland flagship store on May 15th from 6pm - 8pm. Join us for small bites from Jenn Louis of Ray and drinks by Union Wine. Each attendee will receive a signed copy of Modern Macramé and 15% off everything in-store during the event. We'll be hosting giveaways throughout the evening, including a raffle for a spot in her macramé workshop the following day. Guest will also have the first opportunity to participate in Emily's ongoing traveling macramé project.
About the book: "Modern Macramé is a stylish, contemporary guide to the traditional art and craft of macramé, including 33 projects, from driftwood wall art and bohemian light fixtures to macramé rugs and headboards. The projects are showcased in easy to follow and photogenic project layouts, guiding both the novice and the more experienced crafter in a highly achievable way. Included with every project are thoughtful lifestyle tips showing how macramé can provide the perfect finishing touch for the modern, well-designed home--whether it's a hundred-year-old farmhouse, a sophisticated loft, or a cozy but stylish rental."
