Schoolhouse Electric's brick factory in Portland, Oregon is a big building. It's 125,000 sq. ft. to be exact. Although we don't quite fill the four expansive floors yet, we share the building with creative folks and inspiring businesses that embody the maker mindset.

The latest tenant to move into our building is Commonwealth. A shared passion for good design and a love of old things brought Rachel Lachasse + Liz Michel together, and Commonwealth was born. They offer styling and concept design services as well as a plethora of rental vintage furniture and accessories.

Commonwealth's space in Schoolhouse is inspiring and somewhat overwhelming, but in a very good way. There are hundreds of treasures to see and take in all at once. From the shelves of cake and dessert trays to the rows of old wooden chairs, Rachel + Liz have created a beautiful and carefully curated warehouse of pretty things.

To get to know our new neighbors, we asked Rachel + Liz a few questions.

Where do you find inspiration on a daily basis?

"Luckily we live in a city that pushes the envelope and takes risks when it comes to design and beautiful things. It's inspiring to see so many people with gumption and excitement in what they believe in. From day-to-day, it's important to stay grounded in who we are, focus on what is ahead of us, and show craftsmanship by the pieces we design, find or refurbish."

What excites you most about working in the Schoolhouse building?

"What's not to be excited about! This place is awesome! Long before moving in we'd drive by Schoolhouse quite frequently and just dream of being in a place as incredible as this one. When we began to out-grow our last space we started brainstorming where we'd want to go. Schoolhouse was easily at the top of our list, we crossed our fingers and hoped that our longtime dream would come true. We are so thrilled to have the opportunity to work in a place that is first; the most beautiful building in town, and second; is filled with the most friendly, creative, and helpful group of people."

What's your favorite event/photo shoot to date?

"A couple of months ago, we shot a Commonwealth promotional video. We asked several of our most inspiring friends in the industry to come out and capture what it takes to throw a wedding. Commonwealth produced, styled, and coordinated the entire event at The Cleaners of Ace Hotel in downtown Portland."

What's your favorite part of owning/working at Commonwealth?

"It's very humbling and exhilarating to be invited into someone's wedding day or special event. We love being a part of the process, sharing ideas, and walking through that time of life with someone. Aside from working with people, it's fun having such a diverse assortment of inventory that we constantly get to design, style, and curate within an empty space."

As you know, we're big fans of found and foraged goods. We appreciate the history in old things and continue to be inspired by people that bring timeless items back to life.

Welcome to the Schoolhouse family, Commonwealth.
